UA Rigging Course


Objective: This course will offer students an opportunity to gain a better working knowledge and understanding of Industrial Rigging. Students will learn the many aspects of Industrial Rigging including safety, sling angles, shackle requirements, crane dynamics, crane signals, calculating loads, coefficients of friction, tuggers, and other math formulas required to perform safe hoisting.

Requirements: A minimum of 4 years work experience is required. Students registered for this class must bring a current Union Card, drivers license, calculator, notebook, highlighters, safety glasses, & work gloves. Standard work clothing is required.

Course Schedule: This five (5) week course will meet on Mondays & Wednesdays from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Students are required to attend all classes. The Signal Person Safety Training class will also be included with this course.

Certification: Students completing this course will receive the U.A./E.P.R.I. Industrial Rigging Certification. This certification is valid for 5 years.  Rigging skills are evaluated by means of a certification exam that consists of multiple choice questions. A score of 80% or above must be achieved on the written exam. A crane performance exam is also required. During the performance exam, individuals must plan and execute a critical lift utilizing a piping spool assembly, perform a load inversion, and transfer.
